2019-2020 Training Courses for Young People’s Workforce

Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, Department for Media Culture and Sport and the Lottery Community Fund.  YMCA Coventry and Warwickshire and Aptitude are offering fully funded accredited through Open College Network West Midlands youth work training for individuals working within Coventry Youth Partnership.

Level 2 Award in Youth Work Practice 

September – December 2019

Tuesdays 10.15am -12.45 (Term-time only)

Venue: Coventry Boys and Girls Club, Whitefriars Lane, CV1 2DT

Level 2 Certificate in Youth Work Practice

September 2019-March 2020

Wednesdays 6.30pm-9pm (Term-time only)

Venue: Radford Family Hub, Lawrence Saunders Rd, CV6 1HD

Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice 

September 2019 – March 2020

Tuesdays 10.15am -12.45 (Term-time only)

YMCA Coventry & Warwickshire, 20 Endeavour Court, CV6 3LB (Jan-Mar)


  • All applicants must be over 18 years old.

  • Must have a full enhanced DBS (or be willing to complete)

  • Experience as either a volunteer or employee on a regular basis with a local agency that works with young people.

  • Be able to commit to attend the training sessions

Introduction to Child Protection Level 1 - We will deliver training for your staff between 6 - 20 people.

Timings: 2.5 hours (Morning/Afternoon/Evening Mon-Fri) 

Cost: £260 at your venue, or £340 at one of our training locations.


Course Content:

•An overview of what child protection is and the scale of child abuse.

•Understand the different categories of abuse.

•Understand how to recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse.

•An overview of CSE, Radicalisation, Domestic Abuse and FGM.

•Understand what to do if you are concerned about the safety or welfare of the child.

•Support your DSL(Designated Safeguarding Lead) to explore your policies and procedures, with reference to local safeguarding board referral process.

Any organisations/companies who work with children or young people - schools, sports clubs, charities, churches, community groups, education providers
